Brand new for OR 2019 is the Scrubba wash bag MINI – the first portable washing machine to weigh just 2.5 oz. It is designed for ultra-light travellers, hikers and campers who want to pack as light as possible without sacrificing hygiene or the environment.
The concept was launched on Kickstarter on 7 May 2019 and has raised over $64k in the first weeks. Production is well underway and the Scrubba wash bag MINI will be showcased for the first time at Scrubba by Calibre8's booth 22150-SL at Outdoor Retailer. The Scrubba wash bag MINI is the follow on product of the successful original Scrubba wash bag, which has helped over 140,000 people camp and travel clean, light and free. As opposed to its original counterpart, the Scrubba wash bag MINI is half the weight and size and its smaller capacity is designed to wash a couple of pairs or socks at time (or a T-shirt). Between washes the Scrubba wash bag MINI also multi-functions as a dry bag to keep gear dry, a laundry bag to separate dirty clothes, a bucket and even as a phone protector (with the phone operable through the bag’s window).
Having travelled for 3 weeks in South East Asia with less than 3kg of luggage including the clothes on his back, founder Ash Newland knows that for some travellers and campers/hikers, every gram counts.
“The original Scrubba wash bag has been incredibly well received by general travellers but a niche of ultra-light hikers and travellers prompted us to create a new portable washing machine that is over 50% lighter and smaller without compromising performance” said Newland.
“Utilising the patented washboard-in-a-bag design of the Scrubba wash bag, the Scrubba wash bag MINI allows a machine quality wash of a pair of socks and underwear (or a T-shirt) anywhere in just minutes. Permitting them to pack less, the Scrubba wash bag MINI also provides hikers with the rejuvenating feeling of putting on a fresh pair of socks each morning” said Newland.
To clean socks and underwear anywhere in just minutes, a user follows four simple steps: add water, cleaning liquid and clothing; seal and deflate the bag through a valve; place the bag on the ground or a table and rub the clothing against the inner washboard for 30 seconds to 3 minutes; rinse the clothes and hang to dry. Independent testing has shown the patented washboard-in-a-bag design to be twice as effective as handwashing and on par with a washing machine performance.
The Scrubba wash bag MINI is constructed with a lightweight but durable polyether TPU coated nylon fabric (40 denier) and, in addition to the inner washboard, features a TPU grip base to resist sliding, a purge valve for easy deflation, a TPU window for monitoring the washing process, optimal water level markings, instructions printed on the bag and an easy roll-down-and-clip seal.
Not just convenient, the Scrubba wash bag MINI is eco-friendly as it uses no electricity, less water and has been designed to last for years. For those in the outdoors it also allows grey water to be disposed away from water sources to prevent pollution.
