For Outdoor Retailer, we wanted to give other businesses the opportunity to buy from a source they could trust to do right by both producers and consumers, all at a price that won’t break the bank.

Once you feel the quality and fit of our mens’ and womens’ tops and hoodies, you’ll feel the quality and love poured into endless hours of research, development, and production to make the softest and tailored fit clothing we could.

 Press Releases

  • It all started with a little bit of chance, a touch of grit, and a whole lot of stoke.

Maria had spent the day at her sewing machine at her small town church nestled in the warm beach air circulating Baja Mexico. Her hands moved rhythmically between the sewing machine and the colorful handwoven blanket. Two surfers, West Path CEO and founder, Dustin Relethford and his wife , made their way down from California with a simple idea: to make surfboard bags out of hand woven Mexican blankets that had become so popular in every corner of the globe.

We ended up partnering with a church – we provided the materials, equipment, and know-how and would pay a generous wage for each bag, and they taught their congregants how to sew and let anyone who couldn’t find work try to make some extra money by creating our board bags. This had a huge impact on the church community, and it also grew our business tremendously-- it was beginning to be hard to view this as just a side hustle anymore.

The partnership was mutualistic, we fell in love with the community and took every measure we could to honor their work, often coming back to the church to give out Christmas gifts and donating extra money to give back to the community that helped our small business grow into something we could be proud of.

From there, the business exploded, moving into producing and purchasing ethically sourced and artisan-made goods from fair trade factories in India, Mexico, and Portugal. We focused on ethical manufacturing. This comes in many forms, such as sourcing local & handmade, using independent third party inspections to ensure safe and fair working conditions at factories, or by sourcing Fair Trade Certified products (where a portion of our purchase goes directly to supporting the workers who craft our products). All this ensures there’s less waste in the supply chain, happier workers around the globe, and less pollution being heaped onto our Mother Earth.

If it wasn’t for our focus on sustainability from the beginning, it never would have worked.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for supporting something with a purpose.

    - West Path

  • Fair Trade Certified ™. It seems almost like a buzz phrase thrown around in the corporate zeitgeist, but what does it actually mean?

When we started West Path, we committed to making the most awesome products we could while causing the least harm possible, both to the environment and especially to those that were helping us produce the products. Fair Trade lined up exactly with that mission statement.

Fair Trade Certified ™ is, hands down, the best way to ensure a product is ethically and responsibly sourced. It ensures manufacturers go above and beyond in providing fair wages, safe working conditions and creating environmentally friendly products. It also means a portion of the purchase price goes back to directly support the workers who made this product -- empowering them to better their communities.

Does that make things a little complicated at times? Definitely.

We spent over a year finding a Fair Trade Certified ™ factory that could make our products, but it was worth every second. It was the only option for us. We made a promise to adhere to that mission statement, and this was the first step in a journey that would become the base for products that are staples of our product catalog.

From that factory, we were able to create yoga mat bags, blankets, and our entire line of apparel. Along with ensuring the workers were fairly compensated and taken care of, we also committed to using 100% G.O.T.S. certified organic cotton - the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibers, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification.

This isn’t about giving ourselves a pat on the back, but believe this standard is the baseline all companies should follow, ranging from small businesses like ours to the corporate behemoths that are traded on Wall St. We think it's worth it, and we hope you do too.

    Happy Days and Namaste.
